Flooding Rain, Are You Prepared? We Are!

Storm surge flooding during hurricanes is a serious threat. Storm surge is one of the most important stats a meteorologist uses to predict how much damage might occur in a hurricane. This is the height they expect the tide will rise above the normal high tide. Storm surge has caused severe damage in New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, & Rhode Island.
Recent years have seen an increase in flooding from slow-moving storms that drop a tremendous amount of rain. These storms are capable of causing millions of dollars of damage and have caused more property damage in recent years than storm surge because slow-moving storms can cause more damage to larger areas. Sometimes, an area may receive more rain in 48 hours than it does in a month. Extreme rainfall can cause overflow flooding in low-lying areas, storm drains, and rivers.
