Winter Storm Damage/Snow Removal & Water Damage
1/31/2022 (Permalink)
Winter Storm Kenan brought over 2 feet of snow to some areas of New England. Even more impressive were the snow drifts created by the powerful wind gusts that pushed the powdery snow into drifts many feet deep. In the Darien/New Canaan area we did not see these types of snow totals but even with smaller totals the storm still caused damage for many in our area.
Snow removal, especially on flat roof tops, can be crucial to preventing damage to buildings. Leaving snow on vulnerable roof tops can cause water damage to the structure. This has happened more frequently this winter by nature of the temperature swings we have experienced. The rapid warm up and cool down on the snow pack allows snow melt to leak into small spaces and then when the temperatures drop again the water will freeze and expand, opening spaces up further and allowing for deeper water penetration.
